Top Ten Upcoming Releases Based on Comic Books and Cartoons

If you are comic book or cartoon fan who loves movie adaptations of the comics and cartoons you love, 2014 is going to be quite a memorable year. In fact, this may be the best year for these stories being made into films...ever. Here is a top ten list of the movies you should really go see.

10 - Guardians of the Galaxy:

Based on a sci-fi superhero comic book by marvel, this film seems like it is going to be a great one. First mentioned in 2010, the year has finally come for this movie to be released. It has a massive cast of great actors including Benecio Del Toro, Glenn Close, Vin Diesel, and Bradley Cooper--among many others. With an orb of great danger being discovered and stolen, a ragtag group of rivals must come together to stop the certain demise of our cosmos. The release date is August 1st.

9 - The Amazing Spiderman 2:

Spiderman is back in another classic superhero film adaptation. Peter Parker returns to his ways, swinging sky scraper to sky scraper in Manhattan, trying to save his fellow man. This time he faces noteworthy adversaries in Electro and the Rhino. Struggling to balance his life as a high school student and Spiderman, Peter also starts to research his father in hopes of better understanding his past. With a great ensemble, including Jamie Foxx, Emma Stone, and Andrew Garfield, this looks to be one to remember. The release date is May 2nd.

8 - 300 - Rise of an Empire:

The mystique and awe surrounding an elite group of ancient Greek warriors still captivates us as yet another film about them hits this screen. Only this time, it looks to be better than ever before. Frank Miller's latest graphic novel, Xerxes, hits the screens under the name: 300 - Rise of an Empire in March of 2014. This film is based on the Battle of Artemisium which took place at the same time as the Battle of Thermopolylae. Parts of the back story of Xerxes will also be covered.

7 - Transformers Age of Extinction:

The Transformers are back! Just in time for summer, this film will be in cinemas on June 27. This will be the fourth and perhaps most exciting installment of the Transformer series. It has a great cast, including Mark Wahlberg, Nicola Peltz, Kelsey Grammer and Jack Raynor. Being that there wasn't supposed to be a 4th movie, a lot of Transformer fans are worried that this film may not be up to standard. Not me; I'm just happy I get to watch another great Transformers film.

6 - X-Men Days of Future Past:

I may be a little bit biased here as I love the X-Men, but I really cannot wait to see this film. This installment is based on the fictional Marvel comic book characters who were in the 1981 edition called Days of Future Past. The cast of characters remains star-packed and strong, with Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry, Patrick Stewart, and Jennifer Lawrence. To any Marvel fans, you remember this classic comic book. An adaptation to it is a must-see. The release date is May 23.

5 - I, Frankenstein:

This film is a fantastic approach and angle taken on Frankenstein. Based on the graphic novel and original screenplay by Kevin Grevioux, the trailers for this movie look mind-blowing. Combining a classic character like Frankenstein with a war between a clan of gargoyles, and the directing of Stuart Bettie? One couldn't ask for more. Strap your seat-belts on and get ready for the ride. I, Frankenstein looks to be one for the ages. The release date is January 24 in the US.

4 - RoboCop:

Who doesn't love RoboCop? Over 20 years ago just watching RoboCop had us wondering how technologically-advanced the future would be. Well, now it is the future and time again for us to watch and wonder. This is a remake of the classisc 1987 film. With stars such as Joel Kinnaman, Gary Oldman, Samuel L. Jackson and Michael Keaton, this is shaping up to be one of the blockbusters of 2014. The Release date is February 12.

3 - Captain America 2:

The Winter Soldier: For whatever reason, Captain America has always been one of my favorite Superheroes. Maybe it is the fact that he is an American like myself. But really, the simplicity of this superhero always stood out to me. In this film, Captain America does battle with the Winter Soldier, harkening back to the days of USA vs the USSR. The release date for this film is April 4th.

2 - Godzilla:

The lizard beast rears its ugly head again, as the world-wide, generations-lasting pop icon hits the theaters. This is the 50th anniversary of the Godzilla film franchise, so it's only right they give us this treat after so many decades and so many generations watching in dumbstruck awe. This film looks to be a great one, with a dark, dreary feel. This film retells the origin of Godzilla as it was in the original film, bringing us all back to the classic we've grown to love. Only this time, we have the technology to match the "Terrifying force of nature" that is Godzilla. The release date is May 16th.

1 - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Movie:

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I know. A grown man putting the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles as his number one pick. I can't help it. These are my four favorite superheroes of all time, and evoke a lot nostalgia. It is a delight to watch these turtles return. The back story of the Ninja Turtles takes a different turn in this film as they come from an alien invasion who inadvertently spawns them. They defend earth from the alien invasion. This classic is a must see. Release date is August 8th.
